Latency by Chris Coppel is an exciting cop thriller that will leave you guessing until the last few pages. We follow two detectives as they wind their way through the complicated politics of police work. Dealing with issues such as self-defense, death, female cops, and even learning how to deal with working with a relative, it's no surprise at all that dealing with demons seems to come naturally to Mason and Teri. Yeah, demons, as if police work wasn't hard enough on these two.
Latency is a fascinating police novel, a curious tale that follows two detectives. Once tried and true but with a troubled professional past that still haunts him despite being proven right, and a young, still green but very good at what she does rookie detective. Even though the two are thrown together by the bureaucrat hoping to see them fail, they seem to work well together.
The story of Latency is paced at a satisfying speed, feeding us bits and pieces of the story here and there, making the reader hungry for more details, each chapter giving us a bit more before the story's final climax hits in an exciting and not entirely expected manner. The characters are fun to read about, from the troubled cops to the annoying bad guys that you can't help but cheer against. All in all, Latency is work picking up.
